Art Nouveau and Psychedelic

Where do these arts overlap and different?

Art Nouveau first appeared as an “new art” in 20 th century. It adapted a lot from the old styles and art forms such as Gothic and Rococo. Its main style was trying to have man as the center and arts are surrounded him and his life. It used a lot of flowing curvilinear and multiple colors. Much of these characteristics were taken from the life forms that exits in the nature.
After a few decades, a new art form called Psychedelic which had borrowed a lot elements from Art Nouveau which was still using life forms such as flowers, trees but less complex, less curvilinear. It used a much brighter colors, in more organic shapes. Much of graffiti artists design based on psychedelic art to get into another generations.
To my thought, I think the advertisement of Nokia which is using L'amour style is much inspired by these two form of arts.

What can we learn from this?

As an designer, we have to consider some basic elements like: line, shape, color, texture etc when critique or design something. To these two form of arts, how it using curves, line and color are the key elements to consider.
In addition, how these arts got inspirations from is another interesting point to me. The content of these arts are just about things that exists in every day life of human. It shows that inspirations for designers are the things that surrounding us, the experiments that we gather, what we need is knowing how to discover it and how to express it into visual.

My interest for future job

So far, I have learn at RMIT university for almost 4 years now. I started by curious and enjoyment while studying at UPP, but during the first and second years of university, I began to feel confusing. I always felt that this course was too difficult, I could not do programming at all. Sometimes, I even thought that I had made a wrong decision when studying IT.

However, when transferred to a new course that is Bachelor of Design, I felt more confident because all the courses have more relationship to my advantages area that is designing and film.

It looks like that I now can be able to see a clearer road in front of me whereas in the past, all I can see is just a dark forest. Now, I can have more decision for my future job. I want to go deeper into the filming aspect which are designing video clips and animation films for children. At first, I will go to work for a period to get experience then might be I will open a design company with my friends.

I have decided that after I graduated, I will study more in this filming area. I still do not know where I should go and what subjects to study more, but I believe that I will have the answer when I go for the internship and go to work for a few months. Hopefully, I can be able to do my wish successfully.
